Fellowship Application

Claire Chase and Density Arts are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the second cohort of the Density Fellows program (2026-27)!
Five flutists will be selected for the 2026-27 fellowship, which offers one-on-one mentorship with Claire Chase as well as peer-to-peer feedback on each fellow’s performance, interpretation, and recording of works in the existing Density catalog. Fellows may choose any work or works in the Density repertoire to study and perform, and will be given a $750 stipend toward the production costs of their performance or recording.
The aim of the Density Fellows program is to resource the emerging generation of flutists with the technical, interpretive, and practical tools they need to make this body of nascent repertoire their own. Far from teaching the “definitive version” of these new works, the ethos of the fellowship is to nurture and deepen each flutist’s personal approach to the works of their choice. Claire will also facilitate conversations and feedback sessions with Density composers and collaborators as part of the process.
The fundamental values of the fellowship mirror those of Density Arts at large – the ethos of collaboration, an openness to radical experimentation and reinvention, and a community-centered approach to concert production.
Additionally, fellows are also encouraged to bring their own project ideas into mentorship and group sessions for feedback and discussion.
There is no application fee. To apply, please complete the form below. The application deadline is June 20, 2026; fellows will be announced in August.
