Iman Williams
Williams was first exposed to the flute around the age of nine, and after improving rather rapidly, Williams later attended the TWIGS program at Baltimore School for the Arts and trained at the Peabody Preparatory program.
Having completed their studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, Iman is Passionate about mindfulness and amplifying and uplifting Black and Brown voices. Williams uses the flute as a tool to empower, educate, create from within and inspire. Founder of the Musical Mindset bootcamp, Williams’ goal is to help inner city youth ground, keep their head pointed towards the sun, and use music as a tool to express themselves. In 2019, the National Flute Association awarded them with the Frances Blaisdell Scholarship and had their article, Musical Mindset published in the Flutist Quarterly.
In addition to their involvement in the community, Williams has received instruction from Demarre McGill, Tabatha Easley, Timothy Munro, and Rachel Choe. Iman auditioned and was selected to play at numerous events and festivals: United States Air Force Band Diversity Fellowship, Imani Winds Chamber Festival, Marina Piccinini International Masterclass, the Salt Lake National Flute Association Convention.
